Get to Know the Parts of Your Central Heating System

A modern-day central heating system is very different from how things used to be. You’re probably familiar with your thermostat, which allows you to control the heat, but are you aware of all the different parts that go into your central heating system?

  • Fuel type – Depending on what type of central heating system your home has, your furnace could be burning gas, oil, electricity, and more. No matter the type, every furnace needs some sort of fuel.
  • Burner – In order to omit heat, it needs to be generated somewhere. The burner inside of your furnace is responsible for heating up the fuel and mixing it with the air.
  • Heat Exchanger – Once the air is nice and warm, it needs a way to get out of the chamber. The heat exchanger transfers the heated air from inside the furnace to the blower.
  • Blower – Stagnant hot air is never good, which is why the blower takes over from here. Once the air is exchanged from the burner to the blower, a large fan pushes it out into the air ducts and vents.
  • Filter – During the whole process, your filter is what catches dust and debris to prevent it from being spread into your home’s air.

While there are more elements in the process of heating your home, all of these parts must be working in unison in order for your system to be working properly and efficiently. Learning about the process can help you to become more in tune with how your HVAC system is functioning.
